Week in Review - October 1, 2011

Here are links to a few things you might have missed on the blog this week.

How much do you value your religious freedom? Ever think about what you would ask a Tibetan monk who was about to protest his religious persecution by lighting himself on fire? I did.

From the less intense world of American politics….in light of stumbles from the most recent Republican frontrunner Rick Perry, the party continues to scramble in their search for a candidate who can represent their ever-right-shifting platform and beat President Obama. As if things aren’t looking bad enough for the right wing, the President showed this week that he still has impressive fund-raising muscles. There were a couple of good laughs though in the Republican-sphere: Michele Bachmann “blamed” President Obama for a good thing (the Arab Spring), and folks from the “Bad Lip Reading” website made a hilarious overdub version of a Rick Perry speech that will make you pee your pants.

In sports, we had a nice moment of healing in baseball this week, courtesy of 6 year-old Cooper Stone, and we had hours of sucking up in football, thanks to the broadcasters of Monday Night Football and their love affair with Tony Romo.

From the shallow end, I wrote my break up letter to Bank of America this week (that heartless skank), and I shared an opinion (okay, a poster) about gay marriage (and gay lunch) that lets humor make its point.

Lastly, back in the very real world, we learned from the sister of gay teen suicide casualty Jamey Rodemeyer that we still have an unfortunate amount of work to do on the bullying front. Teach your children well.

As always, thanks for reading!
