"Neither the decision nor the changes themselves were based on anyone's political beliefs or ideology. Rather, both were based on Komen's mission and how to better serve women, as well as a realization of the need to distance Komen from controversy."

- From Karen Handel, who resigned from her position today as Vice President of Public Policy for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, attempting to explain her role in driving the rule change that cut the organization's funding for Planned Parenthood.

The need to distance Komen from controversy? Not so much. The only thing that could have made it worse for the Komen Foundation would have been a photo of Handel in front of a closed abortion clinic with a large banner that reads "Mission Accomplished."
